Toby Hay // Tomorrow We Sail // Fuzzy Lights, Leeds, 05/04/2013

We hosted an intimate house show for Fuzzy Lights as they passed through Leeds and what a lovely night it was! Mulled elderberry wine, brownies, candlelit room and as acoustic as we could all manage!

It was Toby Hay’s first show and Tomorrow We Sail’s first for this year. We did an acoustic set and had a wonderful time performing to such a captive yet relaxed audience. We have been buried away in the studio working on the album and will be doing so for a while. Ever once in while we will be emerging to play some small shows. Next one will be Pandemic at Leeds Holy Trinity Church on 27 April. Keep up with our antics over on Facebook.

Toby’s set was delightful from the start. He opened the evening fluidly with his fingerpicked guitar that kept flowing so beautifully. Highlight for me was the second song. Dancing higher strings over a steady walking bass, it never got boring as some fingerpicked guitar songs can get.

Last up were Fuzzy Lights who opened with their very captivating instrumental track ‘Obscura’ before moving on to a more vocal-led set. Since the last time I saw them, I felt that their sound had taken on an Americana-tinged lullaby feel that really suited them. Their last album ‘Twin Feathers’ was beautiful in its own right but I haven’t heard their latest offering yet. If the set was anything to go by, I am going to enjoy listening to it when I do.

Overall, a great team effort on the sailors’ behalf. We’re hoping to host a more regular affair along these lines so if you’re interested, keep your eyes peeled!

Catch Fuzzy Lights on the rest of their tour if you can!
